048 | A Pastor’s Roundtable & a Roundup of Recommended Bibles

Hi, Fellow Dads,

Are you or a family member looking for a new Bible? Here are a few different editions I’ve used, along with my thoughts on each…and a few other tips for dads from a recent pastor’s roundtable I attended. Hope they’re helpful to you!

Takeaways from Pastors’ Roundtable Discussion

      • Q: What do you do if you miss your morning quiet time with the Lord?
A: Follow the “Daniel Plan”—Daniel prayed three times a day, and while we ought to seek the Lord in the morning, if we get caught up in the busyness of life in the morning, that doesn’t mean our day is a total and utter failure—make time at some other point in your day to read your Bible and pray.

      • Q: How do you keep your family involved in worshipping God together?
A: When you have your family Bible time (or family devotions or family altar), sing together.

      • Q: Do you have any tools to help you pray each day?
A: Set a prayer reminder on your phone. “Have you prayed today?”

      • Q: How do you keep your marriage strong?
A: Have a date with your wife once a week.

      • Q: What is a practical method you’re using to maintain your walk with God?
A: Once you’ve read through your Bible a few times, get a new copy, preferably in a different format than the one you’ve grown accustomed to, and read through that. Why?
            • We get used to what we have read several times, and easily fall into the false idea that we know all there is to know in a given passage of scripture.

            • Seeing the exact same words arranged on a page in a slightly different way may help to see the text from a different perspective.

      Recommended Bibles

Here are some of the Bibles I’ve benefitted from reading during the past twenty-seven years.

      KJV Ryrie Study Bible

          • Used hardback copies might also be available from various sellers.

        Interleaved Bible

My friend’s ministry no longer publishes the edition shown here, but other interleaved Bibles are available at Local Church Bible Publishers with lined pages for notes.

The KJV Store has interleaved Bibles with blank pages for notes.

        The Reese Chronological Study Bible

This edition (pictured above) appears to be out of print except as an ebook, but an older edition is available on Amazon.

Large Print Thinline Reference Edition KJV (”LPTREKJV”), published by Hendrickson Bibles

        Available from Christianbook.com

        Note Taker’s Bible

        From Local Church Bible Publishers
